Teaching assistant — guidance for teachers

Teacher Assistant gathers AI tools for teachers in one place: select a tool, fill in a few fields, and get a ready-made draft you can fine-tune, copy, download as Word or PDF — or turn into a glossary for your students.

You will see the question What do you want to create?, choose a tool, answer a few questions, and receive a finished draft — or you can skip the form and describe what you need in your own words.

How it works

The tools are displayed as tiles, sortable by Category, Recently used, or A–Z. If you select one, a short form will appear under Set up: the text or topic, usually the Level (A1–B2, or automatic), and the Quantity. Then click Get response. In the text fields, you can use Upload image of text instead of pasting.

You can continue working with the response:

  • Under Want to change something?, you'll find suggestions like Simpler or More exercises; a single click generates a new version.
  • Copy copies the response along with its formatting.
  • Download provides Word (.docx), PDF, or Cut-out cards — cards you can cut apart.
  • Click on any word in the response to open the dictionary.
  • After using Words from text and Words from topic, Create word list from … words gives you a list under Word lists, ready to be shared and practiced in Practice.

In the text input field, you will also find Attach file, Speak, and Search the web. Attachments can be images, PDFs, or audio recordings up to 10 MB.

The tools

Thirteen tools, divided into four groups.

Words and text

  • Words from text — difficult words with explanations and examples from a text.
  • Words from topic — the same, based on a topic.
  • Change language level — rewrites a text to A1, A2, B1, or B2.
  • Reading comprehension — questions for a text with an answer key: multiple choice, open-ended, or true/false.
  • Translate to student's language — into one or more languages, optionally bilingual.

Exercises and grammar

  • Creative tasks — task suggestions based on a text or a topic.
  • Fill-in-the-blank and grammar exercises — cloze tests, inflections, or word order, with an answer key.
  • Explain grammar — brief explanation with examples and exercises.

Speaking

  • Dialogue and role play — a realistic dialogue for a doctor's appointment, buying tickets, a job interview, etc.
  • Conversation starters — discussion questions to get the class talking.

Assessment and tests

  • Assess student text — color coding, corrected version, assessment against Norwegian language test levels (Norskprøven), and feedback for the student.
  • Norwegian tests — sample tasks for writing, speaking, reading, or listening.
  • Write report — mid-term evaluations, participant reports, and similar.

In addition, there is Free chat, where you can ask about anything — grammar, explanations, ideas for a lesson.

Who it is for

Teacher Assistant is located in the Teacher Portal and is open to teachers and staff. It is best suited for lesson planning, differentiation, and grading, whenever you need a starting point faster than you have time to create it yourself.

It only works with what you provide during the conversation — it does not know your students and cannot see their progress. You take the final result and use it wherever it is needed.

Suggestions for working with Teacher Assistant

  1. Take an authentic text — a brochure, a short news article — run it through Change language level to A2, and run the new version through Reading comprehension: reading text and questions for the same lesson.
  2. Run the same text through Words from text, create a word list from the result, and let students practice the words before reading.
  3. Differentiate: generate the text at both A1 and B1, download both as Word documents, and distribute the respective versions.
  4. When grading: paste an anonymized student text into Assess student text, request color coding and feedback for the student, and use What should I address first?.
  5. For a speaking session: create a Dialogue and role play for the topic, and fetch Conversation starters for follow-up. If you need physical cards, use Cut-out cards.

Good to know

  • A student's text is someone else's personal data. Remove names, dates of birth, addresses, and other identifiers before pasting — write "the student" instead. Read more in Sensitive information.
  • The response is a draft, not an answer key. AI can make mistakes with inflections, facts, and levels. Review everything before using it in the classroom.
  • Conversations are stored for up to one year. They are located under Your conversations, allowing you to retrieve a lesson plan later. A conversation you haven't visited in twelve months is deleted automatically. If you want to remove one before that, use Delete conversation.
  • The level determines the result. Word choice, sentence length, and task type follow the Level. If in doubt, choose one notch lower than you originally intended.
